INSURANCE
Laois Cricket Club is concerned that all members be aware of the current position regarding insurances.
The main club maintains very comprehensive Public Liability and Employers Liability policies, together with prudent Fire and Burglary cover. This ensures that the Club is covered against claims and individual fully paid-up members are also protected. These policies do not, however, provide cover for sporting injuries.
The various sporting bodies, such as the Irish Rugby Football Union, the Irish Hockey Union, and the Irish Cricket Union have compulsory schemes in operation. These, however, are very limited in scope and only cover the implications of major injuries. They do not cover ordinary day to day injuries incurred whilst playing a particular sport.Members are advised, therefore, to investigate taking out their own insurance, so that they are adequately covered for medical expenses and loss of earnings as a result of the consequences of a sporting injury. This can be taken out as an adjunct to a normal householder’s policy or as a stand alone policy. Members should consult their own insurance broker in this regard.
In case of difficulty, the main Club’s insurance broker, Robertson Low Ltd, Lismard Court, Portlaoise, Co. Laois (Telephone No. 057 86 21128) would be pleased to advise.
